Jennifer:
What are your thoughts on the following issues:
1 - Rapid transit extended to the west end of Edmonton - initial estimates put the cost up to 3 billion dollars - three thousand millions?
2 - City Centre hockey arena - should that be paid by private industry or taxpayers?
3 - Municiple airport issue - your stand on this issue please?
Kindest Regards
Paul Cyr Ward 9

Below, you will find my responses to questions on cycling issues:

1. I walk my yellow lab twice a day (sometimes three times) for leisure and for my exercise at a nearby dog off-leash park.

2. I do not feel comfortable riding on major roadways.

2a. I feel that students are comfortable cycling to school, as most schools are in close proximity to their homes.

3. I would support the use of a professional marketing firm undertaking a promotional campaign to encourage active transportation among students and staff.

4. In order to make health a priority, especially in regards to active transportation, I would endeavor to stimulate an expression of those views by whatever means possible. We need to engage all of the stakeholders in a constructive, collegial discussion.

5. I would encourage study of the student health (and correlated academic) consequences of school closure.

5a. I would look at other successful initiatives (such as the initiative in Nova Scotia) around North America and then apply them to the EPSB District.

6. Yes, schools in my ward (Ward E) have adequate, secure bicycle parking.

7. I would enlist the various educational consultants and have them come up with education programs to encourage effective cycling.

8. Same answer as #3. i.e. undertake a promotional campaign to encourage active transportation among students and staff. For information purposes only, the Head Custodian at my daughter's school rides his bicycle to school each and every day.

9. I do not have a photo of myself riding a bicycle.

Hello, and thank you for running for office. As you may know, the arts community and its supporters in Edmonton take a very keen interest in elections. We are all conscientious voters and we pay attention to the issues, particularly where it directly concerns the arts.

We would very much appreciate your taking the time to respond to the following short set of questions we have compiled. Your answers will be posted on the PACE website for our members' and supporters' information. We will also send a synopsis of candidates' responses to our entire network.

Thank you very much for your time. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions yourself.

All the very best of luck to you in this campaign

1.	What is your arts platform? Please elaborate.

2.	The Edmonton Arts Council (EAC) is one of the most progressive and effective arts councils in the country. Can you promise EAC a stable base of long-term funding with which they can support the Edmonton arts community?

3.	Are you aware of and have you read "The Art of Living", the City's Cultural plan, produced by the Edmonton Arts Council in 2008 and which was shortly thereafter adopted by City Council?

4.	What is your commitment to "The Art of Living"? Will you make it a priority to live up to the commitments in it?

5.	Have you been a society member, board member or a donor to an arts organization in Edmonton? Please provide details.

6.	What arts events have you attended in the past year?

7.	Edmonton is severely lacking in arts infrastructure. What are you willing to do to ensure that artists in future generations have adequate space and resources to make and present their work?

8.	What is your commitment to urging the private sector to emulate the city’s commitment to purchasing art as the city (one per cent of budget)?

9.	What would you do to encourage and facilitate the introduction of public art in Edmonton?

10.	It seems as though there’s a drop in art programming in the schools. Do you have a vision for engaging Edmonton’s youth in the arts?

Despite stating he is a cyclist, I can't help but wonder how often he bikes if he thinks that cyclists would be better off on sidewalks with painted lines. I don't see the cost savings he is trying to point out by making bike lanes on roads vs. making bike lanes on sidewalks. Bike lanes are hardly the "extremely expensive" options here!

Is he trying to scare people out of cycling in the winter?! Of course it's not for everyone, and not for all winter days.

Love that he pulled the 1/10 statistic out of nowhere. "Hurt or killed by improper bike lanes"? What? His bike-lane-on-sidewalk suggestion would cause more confusion and awkward right-of-ways than an on-street bike lane.

Hi Marilyn,

We fully intend to publish the info as we find it. I haven't had time yet to figure out who has already declared their candidacy for the ECSD, but will be sure to add info as we learn it.
