| Inquiry | Greetings. I am a voter in your ward and I am interested in learning your stance on cycling and cycling infrastructure funding in Edmonton. I have attached the Edmonton Bicycle Commuters’ lobby document, which was crafted to provide succinct
points as to why cycling should be prioritized.
… (show more)I have been a cycle-commuter for more then 10 years and have worked to make cycling better in Edmonton in a variety of ways (chiefly through festivals, education and advocacy). It would be ever so encouraging to have the City of Edmonton step up to it’s stated commitments to cycling and active living. I look forward to your response. Kind regards KC |

| Response | hi kc, i’m a big cycle supporter. we made a conscious decision to live in Oliver so that we don’t have to use our car. i commute to work/meetings either by walking or cycling or transit or motorcycle. occasionally i do have to use the van (when i’m ill with a cold or have to transport things)
… (show more)most recently i brought forward a motion at my community league, approved and accepted, to have bike lanes run along 102nd and 103rd ave from railtown to 124 street. the city is working on implementing the request. unfortunately the process takes a long time. we meet with planners in Janurary 2011 (i don’t understand why. if the community favors this sort of “development” then it should be implemented immediately. another platform of mine is to give the community additional say in how it is developed.) our present council talks about a walkable, bike friendly, transit oriented city but does little to implement that vision. if we are to promote walking and cycling and the use of transit in this city then we need to make using a car unattractive – we need to give priority to the development of pedestrian streets, bike lanes and transit. thanks for your question bryan |

| Response | hi chris answers as follows 1) bike for leisure and commuting when the weather is good 2) walk all the time, i live in the center of oliver, no need to use a car 3) no, need more bike paths. as a director of oliver community league i proposed including bike paths on 102nd and 103rd ave from railtown to 124st. the motion was adopted and we meet with the city in january to talk about the details. really, i don’t know what the details could be. they, the administration, should just do it.
… (show more)4) bike month is every month except the really cold winter months 5) we need to make car travel difficult. this means giving priority to transit and bikes when we develop our neighbourhoods 6) yes 7) keep it simple – planning and transportation. with too many at the table little gets done 8) more bike spaces, fewer car spaces 9) we need to make car travel difficult. this means giving priority to transit and bikes when we develop our neighbourhoods 10) sorry, no thanks bryan |
| Inquiry | Hi Bryan, I’m just wondering what you think of the idea of introducing a city-wide bike rental program as they have in Paris, London, and other cities? People’s Pedal didn’t work because it was too small-scale and underfunded… do you think a larger scale project could work in our city?

| Response | Great idea. I’d use it. And yes it will only work if we go big. Availability, convenience will get people to use it |
