| Inquiry | Hello Scott McKeen, I am living in Ward 7 and I would like you to support transportation by bicycle. I am a bicycle commuter and a member of Edmonton Bicycle Commuters. Biking should be made as safe as possible by having bike lanes painted on busy roads, on very busy roads, bikes should be protected by separate bicycle lanes with their own traffic lights. Example would be 97th Street, 82nd Street. Painted bike lanes should be on 118th and 111th Ave, also 115th and 120th Ave and possibly more. Parking for bicycles should be available on safe sites at LRT and Transport stations.
… (show more)Painting bike lanes is inexpensive and would facilitate more safe transportation, and people would use their bikes more, as opposed to the present. More biking would cut down on car use, less exhaust, cleaner air, healthier people, less heavy traffic on roads, less upkeep for roads needed. Biking can be done safely 265 days a year. Are you a bicyclist? It would be nice to have a photo of yourself on a bicycle, that you could send us, as your support of biking. Thank you for your consideration, JS |

| Response | J, I used to commute to downtown by bike from Clareview. Down Victoria Trail, along 118th Avenue, south on 50th Street, along 112th Avenue, etcetera. I know it can be a bit hairy on those street. I support bike lanes. My only caveat is that I don’t know yet all the consequences for those routes you mention. My bias is in favour of bike lanes, though, unless the cost to the city or communities is prohibitive. Hope that answers your question.
