InquiryCycling Issues in Edmonton Questionnaire

ResponseThanks for the email.

1. I have never rode a bike. I was a fat little kid and was very shy about bikes. I have ridden several thousand kilometers on exercise bikes however. The scenery isn’t as good.
2. I walk quite a bit. It is a good low impact
exercise. In the last few months I have walked the entirety of Ward 7, going to garage sales and talking about their neighborhoods. I take the LRT occasionally, let’s say a few times a year. Where I go there are usually things to pack.
3. I sometimes worry about other people I see riding amongst traffic. But sometimes they have to co-mingle passing through choke points.
4. Never heard of it until now.
5. Transportation budgets are always stressed. But I would be willing to look at the situation and decide. Perhaps there are other sources of grants, etc.. If Northlands can get 75 million from the province and feds, then there may be a few million laying around for the BTP, schools and libraries.
6. I would like to see them completed.
7. I’m not privy to who has to be there legally and bureaucratically. I would certainly be willing to have citizen input.
8. It’s a touchy problem dictating on private property. City property can be mandated, but may not be convenient. How far would a bicyclist be willing to walk from the lock-up?
9.First you have to make them aware of the BTP. When they know of it they will think about using it. This will also help you with funding.
10. I have a photo 25 years old of myself on an exercise bike wearing the height of 80′s exercise fashion.
